Homestead
Gas Company has furnished propane gas for South Florida since 1934. It
began as the Redland Ice and Power Company under the guidance of Marlow
Daniel Jacobsen. Marlow's son, T Marlow Jacobsen, operated a propane gas
company in Marathon in Monroe County (the Florida Keys) until 1952 when he
went into partnership with his father. They incorporated the company in
1959 as Homestead Gas Company and Marlow became president.
Katrina Jacobsen
Lavene, daughter of Marlow, became president in 1992 after having grown up
in the business with an acute sense of the dramatic growth of South
Florida. Katrina is active in the industry and in the community. She
served as president of the Young Gasser's Organization,
secretary/treasurer of the Greater Miami Gas Institute and on the
legislative and marketing committees for the Florida Propane Gas
Association. In the community she is an active member of the Rotary Club,
Military Affairs Committee, the Greater Homestead/Florida City Chamber of
Commerce and the advisory council for a local bank.
